Summer knitwear


Knitwear is not just clothes for the winter often knitwear is also use for summer clothes. Crave’s stylish maternity summer knitwear includes fine knit jumpers, on-trend tank tops, lightweight cardigans and sexy knitted vests. Not only Missoni uses knitwear for summer clothes also Galiano, Chanel and Stella Mc Cartney.

Also cheape brands saw the trend of knitwear and produce their own knitwear collection. Topshop did this 2 years ago and is really sucessful with their knitwear colletion. They offer, dresses, jumpers and tops from 30- 120 € so for evrybody.

Stella McCartney presented her Autumn/Winter collection in Paris. It included this grey jumper dress with polar bear detail. The jumper has been very popular as it's so easy to wear, just pull on thick tights and ankle boots. Unfortunately it is really expensive but you can finde by zara or H&m kind of the same for only 45 €. So you see it does not have to cost a lot to be fashionable often you can find clothes similar to them from famous designers in Zara, H&M and Mano

Pret a Porte Paris


Even in the pret a porte in paris this year where they showed the autum winter collection for 2008/2009 you can find a lot of knitwear which means that in the follwing year knitwear is still fashionable. Mayor as well as independent companies followed the trend and showed their knitwear collection.

Accessories of knitwear


Knitwear is not use only in clothes also in accessories . A big trend this year was the oversize scarf to fell warm and comfortable in the cold winter days! Often colorful really long and used without jacket just with a jumper. But also knitwear hats and bags were often used this winten and probaly also next winter, so that we do not have to feel cold.

Boleros are BACK


It has never been so stylish to keep warm before either, so stay healthy with this season's beautiful knitwear. Bolero jacket .The bolero jacket or caplet has been a big trend this season with everyone from zara to Dolce and Gabana including them in their collections. They are a great way to finish a dress, perk up a plain top or in this case to keep us warm and cosy. Wear them over a simple tank, t-shirt, long sleeve top or belted over a crisp white shirt.

Knitwear is a trend for every Autumn/Winter season so it's no surprise that there is a vast array of it currently in stores. However, this season designers have become more experimental with their shapes and sizes. A lot of designer created a line of giant, oversized knitwear and Stella McCartney produced a collection of new shape knitwear, including this cape for £525. Her latest range,, includes a jumper dress with exaggerated padded elbows. It creates slouchy arms on the jumper which hints at the oversized trend. Wear it over jeans or on it's own with thick wool tights and ankle boots.

Knitwear Trendbook 2008/2009


For many desinger is is really important to know what could be fashionable and which colors could be trend before they design. Thats why there are books which try to find this out. They try to have a specific and pragmatic study of the nwe knitwear trends. One of the famoust one is made Promostyle. The Knitwear trendbook has 90 pages, in an A4 format and published in English. It brings a creative yet concrete answers to this ever-growing market. Thanks to new manufacturing methods, circular knitwear is more and more innovative and rich.

Sonia Rykiel


Another famous knitwear designer is Sonia Rykiel. She is called "queen of knitwear". Her colours are usually beige, grey, dark blue and charcoal.She proved that knitwear can follow any trend. Her trademark design are skinny sweaters with raised armholes in distinctive colors and striped pattern. She was one of the first who create elegant, fluid garments in soft wools, jersey, angor and mohair. A sensual outline is important to her garments and many are figure-hugging.

MISSONI


The huge luxery empire that is now represents started buiness in 1953 as a small fashion studio in the basemt of Rosita and Ottavio´s house. The 70s were Missoni´s years. In that periode, the family buisness grw tremendously, making its way even to the most select markets of the world. Their designs have become famous thanks to theire colorful patterns and stripes on wide-ranging fabrics. Their lines expanded when Ottavio Missoni began to design carpets and tapestries, but they still retain their trademark, which is colourful patterns, stripes, and liberal use of many different fabrics. 

History of Knitwear

In 1589, Wiliam Lee, invented the first knitting machine in England. After this invention, in the 17 and 18th centuries the art of knitting was gradually taken over by guild organised cottage industry. Between 1880 to 1910 knitwear was mainly a female fashion, later knitted pullovers, cardigans, skirts, men´s underwear, sportswear and swimwear became popular. Developments in the 20 century increades the production speeds of machines and offered wider choise to pattern the knitted fabrics. Now computer controlled knitting machines  have come on the scene, which are highly versatile. Knitted garments have now become everyday dress.

MOVEMENT


Coco Chanel´s 1916 use of jersey in her hugely influential suits was a turning point for knitwear, which became associated with the liberated women. Shortly afterwards, Jean Patou cubist-inspired, color-blockes knits were the sportwear choice. the swinging 1960s were famously in Missoni´s clourful zigzag Knitwear. In the 1980s, knitwear ermerged from the realm of sportswear to dominate high fashion.
